2015 Kangarilla Road Duetto
The initial aroma is slightly flinty and is evocative of summer electrical storms. Then the sweet scent of glace pears, apricots and lycee intermingle and glimpses of ground coriander seeds appear. The palate is full of firm and tangy apricots together with both slightly sweet and saline notes reminiscent of fresh crustaceans. The wine has a delightfully textural mouthfeel that carries a great length of flavour with hints of Campari on the finish.
Texture and freshness are key components of this wine. We fermented 20% of the fruit in traditional clay amphoras for eight weeks before pressing the juice. The rest of the fruit was fermented separately using naturally wild yeasts which also add a complex component to the wine.
Vermentino hails from Sardinia and typically shows crisp acidity and texture while the Fiano comes from Campagna in the south of Italy and tends to show more weight and breadth, making it two combine beautifully. Both wines underwent wild fermentation and 20% of each variety remained on skins in traditional clay amphoras, yet were kept and treated quite separately in the winery.
Food Pairing Notes
The fresh style and texture of the Duetto makes this a great wine with antipasto, particularly olives, white anchovies, semi-dried tomatoes or other marinated vegetables.
